The only other thing I've read that works is clearing the games cache although I'm worried that my save game is a part of that.

The dlcs are not balanced as endgame content, so do them as they come up. They generaly get unlocked with the main quest, the exception being Theresas one, which is wholy divorced from the main game. And I want to point out you don't have to do the quests of womans lot to get the dog. Just talk to theresa about it. It is not the questmarked
